The PSAT, as of October of 2023, has turned fully digital! The entire format of the test has changed, which means so have the prep books. Make sure to keep this in mind when choosing your prep books.
The primary purpose of the PSAT/NMSQT is the scholarships and awards given to high scores (factors which are determined by your state's overall scoring data)

The ACT
The Act is not changing its test format, but it is switching to online eventually. The difference between the ACT & SAT is the speed of reading and comprehension. The ACT tends to ask more straightforward questions, but gives you less time. While the SAT tends to ask trickier questions, but also gives you more time. Plus, it has a science section!

Scoring format ranges from 1-36, with 1 being the lowest and 36 being the highest.

The AP Exams
The Advanced Placement exams all take place in May and consist of many different formats. There are a total of 38 different AP Courses. The formats are not listed below, but they all consist of a multiple-choice section and a free-response question section. The ratios of MCQs to FRQs on each exam vary. The scoring of these exams is also different than usual scores. They are scored from 1-5, 1 being the lowest score and 5 being the highest. Most colleges accept 3 and above; however, some only take 4-5.
The NYS Regents
The Regents are NYS exclusive and are a type of achievement test. These exams all contain an MCQ portion and open ended. The format, however, varies based on exam type. The goal score is an 85 or above on all exams to gain an advanced Regents diploma at the end of your high school career. [scoring is usually 1-100]
